“Everything Will Be Just Fine”

Behind the Scenes at The Carson City Mural Festival

I’m on this never ending quest of painting walls, where the buried treasure on a mystical island far far away holds not riches and glory, but total Creative Freedom over my canvas. I’m no Master of Cans by any means, but I am forever a student of the game. My search for buried treasure is accompanied by little nuggets I find along the way. I hold tight to these nuggets because you can only discover them by walking the long road where the only real buried treasure comes from the memories we make along the way. This quest, it’s a game, and I’m in love with the game.

Every time I paint I learn something new, or forget something old. Pushing and pulling,
pulling and pushing, in hopes of finding that balance. I always find it in a feeling though. The key to painting is finding that feeling and feeling that feel for real. When you have nothing to obstruct you in that task, whether it be physical and mental, made up or for real, you’re free to fly. The Selders Family gave me a chance to fly by giving me full creative freedom to paint how I feel. These characters in my head have become my homies. Crazy right. I take what’s real and make it mine through the worlds I paint on the wall.

I know what is real though. And that’s the opportunities to paint at mural festivals like these alongside my friends, where we all understand our world and there’s no one around to judge. I’m grateful for these times and those nuggets I collect from them. Although they may be short lived, I cannot wait until our next festival together as friends. Until then, I’ll be searching for that balance on my infinite quest for walls.
